Significant advancements have been made in the field of podiatry in recent years, with CPMA playing a pivotal role advance our profession. Under Kristen Winter’s leadership as President of CPMA, the association has spearheaded groundbreaking initiatives, fostered collaboration within the podiatric community, and advocated for policies that promote excellence in patient care.
As President Kristen Winter’s tenure draws to a close, we are excited to introduce her successor, President-Elect Adam Mucinskas. Dr. Mucinskas, currently serving as a member of CPMA’s Board of Directors, brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the organization. In this spotlight, we share what drew him to the podiatric field, his perspectives on addressing patient needs, his involvement in board membership, and his forward-looking vision as President-Elect of the CPMA.
Beginning at the start with his inspiration to enter the field, Dr. Mucinskas finds the ability to make a positive impact on people's lives gratifying. He gets excited about the ability to witness transformative changes in patients, sometimes in a remarkably short period. Additionally, Dr. Mucinskas views podiatry as an ideal blend of medicine and surgery, enabling him to utilize both aspects of his expertise to provide comprehensive care.
With his extensive experience in the field, Dr. Mucinskas highlights the importance of continuous learning, advising aspiring professionals to remain dedicated to seeking knowledge and embracing growth opportunities. Recognizing the dynamic nature of podiatry, he believes there is always more to learn or do. Dr. Mucinskas emphasizes the significance of giving back to the community through acts of volunteerism, while also graciously acknowledging the support and guidance received from others.
With a career steeped in experience, Dr. Mucinskas identifies access to quality care for lower-income individuals as a pressing challenge within podiatric services. Unfortunately, the reimbursement rates from programs like Medicaid are often insufficient, resulting in a financial burden on practices that serve this population. He advocates for pay reform to ensure fairness and equity in providing high-quality care to those who need it most, without straining healthcare providers.
As a member of the CPMA Board of Directors, Dr. Mucinskas has garnered a wealth of knowledge that will inform his role as President. Notably, one of his most consequential achievements was being part of the team that successfully facilitated the previous scope of practice change. He was impressed to see what can be accomplished by a small group who are determined and organized and selflessly contribute to the community's betterment.
Despite his professional commitments, Dr. Mucinskas leads an active life filled with diverse hobbies. He enjoys many outdoor activities such as hiking, golfing, skiing, and carpentry, but his greatest joy stems from spending quality time with his wife and two children, cherishing every moment before they leave the nest.
Dr. Adam Mucinskas' passion for podiatric medicine and surgery is evident in his commitment to patient care, professional growth, and the betterment of the medical community. As the upcoming President of CPMA, we extend our sincere gratitude to Dr. Mucinskas for sharing his expertise.
