Meet CPMA Board Member Dr. Nicholas Faiver
From Clinical Curiosity to Statewide Impact: Dr. Faiver’s Commitment to Advancing Podiatric Medicine
With experience spanning multiple states and specialties, Dr. Nicholas Faiver, DPM, FACFAS, and Board-Certified in Foot Surgery and Reconstructive Rearfoot/Ankle (RRA) Surgery, brings a well-rounded and forward-thinking perspective to his role on the CPMA Board. His passion for surgical excellence, mentorship, and policy advancement reflects a deep commitment to strengthening podiatric medicine in Connecticut and beyond.

Dr. Faiver’s path to CPMA leadership was shaped by the differences he observed across state lines. After completing his residency in Philadelphia and practicing in Detroit, he moved to Connecticut and quickly noticed limitations in the state’s scope of practice for podiatrists. The contrast was striking, especially compared to the autonomy and procedural range he had seen elsewhere. Those differences became a catalyst for action. He joined CPMA and the APMA Education Committee to be part of the solution—committed to strengthening the profession from within and ensuring podiatrists in Connecticut can fully utilize their training and expertise. With CPMA’s recent progress expanding scope to include total ankle replacements and more proximal amputations, Dr. Faiver is excited to help build on that momentum and push for greater equity across the healthcare landscape.
Dr. Faiver’s clinical expertise covers everything from sports injuries and complex trauma to nerve disorders and arthroscopy. Staying up to date across so many areas requires constant learning, and he prioritizes ongoing education through research, CME courses, and hands-on cadaver labs. He is also actively involved in teaching, working closely with the Yale New Haven residency program to help train and learn from the next generation of podiatric physicians.
At the heart of his care philosophy is a personalized approach—one rooted in strong communication, shared decision-making, and genuine connection. He takes pride in delivering high-quality care across a wide range of lower extremity conditions, guided by the values instilled during his residency training and mentorship experiences, which he carries with him into every exam room. Drawing on lessons from his years in athletics, he approaches medicine with the mindset that “you play the way you practice.” For Dr. Faiver, every patient encounter is an opportunity to listen closely, build trust, and collaboratively develop a treatment plan tailored to the individual’s needs and goals. Whether caring for a high-risk limb salvage patient or an athlete recovering from injury, he strives to deliver the same level of care he would provide to a family member.
Looking ahead, Dr. Faiver sees both challenges and opportunities for the field of podiatry. He points to growing insurance barriers and the spread of misinformation through social media and the internet as significant obstacles, particularly when it comes to providing individualized treatment that meets each patient’s specific needs. These challenges make it more difficult for podiatrists to deliver the kind of tailored, high-quality care that defines the profession. He believes that the path forward lies in unifying the field nationally, improving public awareness, and strengthening podiatry’s position within the broader healthcare community.
Within CPMA, Dr. Faiver is especially focused on issues like insurance reimbursement, medical equity, and the sustainability of the workforce. He emphasizes that while physician burnout and financial pressure are affecting all of medicine, podiatry faces unique structural challenges—from declining podiatry school applications to inconsistent scope regulations across the country. As a younger practitioner, he remains deeply grateful for the work of the many podiatric organizations that have advanced the profession and recognizes that today’s progress is built on the efforts of those who came before. He sees an opportunity for these groups to work more closely together, creating stronger alignment across the profession and driving more coordinated advocacy at both the state and national levels.
Outside of the clinic and boardroom, Dr. Faiver finds balance through music, fitness, and outdoor adventure. He plays both guitar and piano and carves out time each week to run or work out. He and his fiancée Vanessa, along with their husky-chow Niko, love to travel, hike, and explore new cultures. In recent years, they’ve ventured to Norway and Iceland, with Japan on the horizon and Mount Kilimanjaro next on their list.
Dr. Faiver’s wide-ranging clinical experience, commitment to lifelong learning, and drive to improve the field make him a valuable asset to the CPMA Board. His leadership helps ensure that Connecticut’s podiatrists are well-represented, well-prepared, and well-positioned to meet the evolving needs of patients across the state. CPMA is proud to have him on the team as we continue shaping the future of podiatric medicine together.
