Surfing the State Financial Tsunami

CPMA Lobbyist Linda Kowalski is actively working with the legislative leadership to progress our two bills during the likely Summer Special Session: Senate Bill 319, Fee Parity for Podiatry in Health Insurance Plans and House Bill 5442, Fee Parity for Podiatry in the Medicaid Program.

However, legislators will be primarily concerned with the coming “Financial Tsunami.” State Comptroller Lembo projects a state budget deficit of $619.9 million for the fiscal year ending June 30. Next year’s deficits could reach into the billions.

Important Upcoming Election Season – Take Action!

Kowalski also reminded members that the Connecticut General Assembly will have all 151 House and 36 Senate seats up for re-election with several members of leadership not seeking reelection. Be sure to be active, “If you are not at the table, you will be on the menu!” Invite legislators to your practice, volunteer on campaigns, and vote on November 3.

Fall Programming on Hold

Although there is interest in holding a Cadaveric Workshop this fall, President James DeJesus stated that the surgery centers are not in a position yet to schedule one. As the state continues to open up safely, CPMA is planning for the future.

Take Advantage of the Coding Resource Center

Executive Director Marc Lederman reminded members of the newest member benefit, a free subscription to the APMA Coding Resource Center. It offers a single, fully-integrated coding product for foot, ankle, and leg-relevant CPT codes and guidelines as well as other resources. Members can learn more and enroll for free at https://cpma.org/coding-resource-center/.

CPMA Foundation Continues Despite Pandemic

Dr. Lynn LeBlanc shared that Footwear with Care continues to gain grants and is distributing shoes—even throughout this crisis period.
